Chow-Chow Relish

Southern chow-chow is a tangy and slightly spicy relish that originated in the southern United States. Made with a medley of chopped or grated vegetables including green tomatoes, bell peppers, onions, cauliflower, carrots, cucumbers and optional jalapeƱo peppers for a hint of heat, this versatile condiment is perfect as a pickled topping for hot dogs, hamburgers or sandwiches, adding a tasty tang and texture. It can also be enjoyed as a relish for barbecue, a side dish with seafood, a flavorful addition to salads or a dip for crackers or chips.

Rooted in the Southern tradition of vegetable preservation, chow-chow was created to make use of excess or leftover vegetables and to infuse meals with flavor during the colder months.
